BIOGRAPHY

dussoldorf gigBorn in Wales to Irish parents, Lorraine was brought up listening to Irish music   - her father in his day was an All-Ireland flute champion and her uncle Frank Jordan is to this day a renowned flute player in Co. Roscommon. This, along with her other early influences (Cat Stephens, Joan Armatrading, Van Morrison, John Martyn, Annie Lennox etc) is reflected in her powerful and melodic songs. They have been covered by many artists including Scotland's Archie Fisher and John Wright. She has released 3 CDs prior to her latest, A Light Over There, all to much critical acclaim.

Growing up in a musical family, Lorraine's love of ballads was influenced by the singing of her older sister, Philomena, who taught her many of the ballads that remain among her favourites to this day. She started the early days of her career singing in the folk clubs of South Wales while still at school and playing in her first band, Mooncoin,  before moving to Scotland, the place that became her home for many years. While living in Edinburgh she played in the band Malin Head (a Scots/Irish outfit) before going solo with her own music.

Previous musicians who have toured with Lorraine have included Niall O'Callanain (Deisal), Steafan Hannigan (Sin E), John Whelan (Mary Coughlan Band), Tony McManus, Neal Davey (Anam), Pete Garnet (Moishe's Bagel), Gill Hunter (Bohinta, Dougie McLean etc)....

Lorraine has played alongside great performers, including Capercaille, The Waterboys, Richard Thompson, Loudon Wainright III, Dick Gaughan,  Horse,
Alan Stivel,...  She has recently been working with pianist Steve Fletcher ( Paul Brady and The Penguin Cafe Orchestra) and drummer Davide Giovannini (previously and on-going with Steve Winwood).

She has toured extensively in Germany, Italy, Austria, Holland, Switzerland, Scandinavia, Ireland and Scotland, and has a growing audience in Australia and the USA following her recent tours there.

Lorraine
has played at a host of festivals including Folkest (Italy); Festinal (Italy); The National Festival (Australia), Jacob's Ladder Folk Festival (Israel); Hallein (Austria); Gutenbrunn (Austria); Festival Celtique (Chambery/France); Sidmouth International Folk Festival (England); Jersey Folk Festival (UK);  Pontardawe Folk Festival (Wales); Edinburgh International Fringe Festival (Scotland); The Shetland Festival; Stonehaven Folk Festival; The Hebridean Festival; and many other festivals.

Cultural Collaboration
The last few years have seen Lorraine touring Australia and Europe with Planet Woman – a cultural collaboration which toured from 2003 - 2006. Planet Woman brought together five female musicians from both sides of the globe, sharing Celtic and Maori traditions. They recorded an EP in 2004 entitled “From Celtic Roots to Oceanic Soul”, and released the album "Reeling In The Pacific"  in 2005.
